Scott O'Dell Strikes Again.
“Hey animals,” said the farmer.
The animals all looked up at the farmer in wonder.
“The rules are going to start changing around here. First of all, I’m going to make you pay me money to live here.”
The animals all stared at the farmer.
“But I’m not going to keep the money. You all are going to get together and elect one animal to represent you, and that animal will keep all the money.”
The animals looked at each other.
“Then, when you want something, you will have to go to that animal and get the money from them.”
The animals looked around the barnyard.
“So to keep it fair, and frankly because some of the animals around here become meals for my family, every once in a while you’ll elect a new animal to represent you.”
The animals looked back at the farmer.
“So get yourself a representative, and that animal will tell you how much you will have to pay.” With that, the farmer walked away.
None of the animals said anything until the farmer was out of earshot.
“I think that I should be the representative,” said the horse. “After all, I am intelligent and I can run fast.”
“I think that I should be the representative,” said the pig. “After all, I am also intelligent and I stay in the barnyard all the time, so I know what the animals want.”
“I think that I should be the representative,” said the goat. “After all, I keep the barnyard clean and give milk.”
“Well, I give milk also,” said the cow. “And I’m not in much danger of becoming the farmer lunch. So I think I should be the representative.”
Animal after animal spoke up and said why they should be the representative. Each had his own selfish reasons. But one animal remained silent throughout the entire debate. Soon the animals all noticed that this one animal had remained silent. So they went over to the animal and asked why he kept still during this big debate.
“Haven’t got anything to say…” he said.
The animals thought this was great. So they elected him to be the representative. Because he is the representative, he now controls their money and tells them how to spend it. They have to go to him every time they wish to have anything good. He makes the rules and the animals have to follow them.
Of course, the animal is the JACKASS!
Isn’t it amazing how SA appears in jackass twice?
